I am very pleased to submit my letter of candidacy to you for representation of coaches and athletes for the United States Cycling Road Committee. The coach representative has a unique opportunity to ensure the membership voices are heard and acted upon.  My goal would to assure the USAC Road Coach’s opinions are heard and during committee meetings, also represent the interest of athletes, as both are critical in shaping the future of USA Cycling. As an active coach and teacher, we must to continue to improve our coaching knowledge, skills and abilities in order to help all riders achieve their goals.

I began my relationship with USAC in 1993 and feel I have the experience and knowledge to represent USAC coaches on this committee.  I feel compelled to uphold, share and continuously review knowledge shared with beginning racers, juniors, masters, women and elites and have done so by using my USAC certifications in coaching and well as my USAC National Skills Instructor certifications to do so.
I have been racing bicycles since 1981, where I learned to road race, then moved to time trialing (individual and team) then back to the road.  I have been an elite level athlete as well as coach to many top amateur and professional racers.  I have been coaching cyclists at every level for the last 10 years and have been fortunate enough to be mentored by some of the best individuals in the world.  As a Level 2 coach, I have represented USAC at many events outside of the committee structure.  Now I have the opportunity to be a change agent for cycling coaches and give back to those who have given me so much.

I have worked closely with current USAC Road coach representative Hunter Allen and have learned much from his experiences on such a prestigious committee.  Along with teaching exercise physiology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and directing the Human Performance Laboratory, I have been an invited guest lecturer on coaching across the globe.  I feel fortunate to have been at the right place at the right time for many of my accomplishments.  I feel that time is now right for me and my candidacy for this committee.
Being your coach representative, I will continue to uphold the foundation put in place by the existing committee members and promise to keep USAC coaches in a position to make positive, proactive choices about our sport.  As one cannot work in a vacuum, both the coach and the athlete’s views, comments and concerns are very serious for me to handle and bring to the table for review and action.  I will assure that your voices are heard and I will assure coaching education is one of the most important goals at USA Cycling.

Thank you for your vote.
