Juniors Track National Championships begin this Thursday in T-town


Colorado Springs, Colo. (July 23, 2013) – Thirty national titles will be on the line this weekend as top juniors cyclists from around the nation converge on the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown, Pa., July 25-28, for the 2013 USA Cycling Juniors Track National Championships.
Cyclists ages 10-16 will compete for Stars-and-Stripes jerseys in multi-race omniums while riders in the 17-18 category will race for national titles in the individual pursuit, time trial, international omnium, points race, sprint, keirin, and scratch race. National titles will also be on the line for teams in the team pursuit, team sprint, and Madison. See the complete schedule of events here.

Seasoned junior riders in attendance will include 17-18 racers like Matthew Valencia (Los Altos, Calif./Team Specialized Racing/ Team Specialized Racing Juniors), Tara McCormick (Long Beach, Calif./ExergyTWENTY16), Evelyn Korbich (New Triploi, Pa./Young Medalists) and Sarah Huang (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./ExergyTWENTY16). In the younger categories, spectators will be able to watch up-and-comers like Grant McElroy (Portland, Ore./Team Specialized Racing) in the 15-16 group and Summer Moak (Katy, Texas/Exergy TWENTY16), Kiley Krasley (Coplay, Pa.), and Weston Giem (Valencia, Calif./Team Velosport Club/ Rokform/Rock N' Road) in the 13-14 events.

In addition to the Stars-and-Stripes jerseys that are on the line, automatic nominations are also up for grabs for juniors in the 17-18 age group to represent the U.S. at the 2013 UCI Juniors Track World Championships. 17-18-year-old riders may earn an automatic nomination by meeting a time standard and winning the sprint, keirin, team sprint, team pursuit, international omnium, individual pursuit, or time trial.
