(March 25, 2016) – USA Cycling is excited to announce the Junior World Track Championships Technique Camp, Qualifying Race and Prep Camp in the lead up to the UCI Junior Track World Championships, July 20-24 in Aigle, Switzerland, at the UCI World Cycling Center Velodrome.

“We want to build on the momentum that our World Champions have created and field a strong team for Junior Track World Championships,” said junior track head coach Chris Daggs. “Junior Track Worlds is a huge opportunity for a junior rider to represent the United States internationally; our selection procedures will allow us to take up to 28 athletes, and I'd love nothing more than large contingent of American juniors on the track in Aigle to show the world track is back in the U.S.
“Over the past 11 years, we've won more than 25 medals at Junior and Elite Worlds, including 12 World titles. Jennifer Valente, current Women’s Team Pursuit World Champion and 2016 Olympic Team Member, has a junior world title and a few medals. She’s an excellent example of where your experience at junior track worlds can lead.”
The Junior World Championship Qualifying Race will be held June 16-18 in Trexlertown, Pa., at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in conjunction with the world-renowned Festival of Speed, an Elite NTC and UCI C1 event. The qualifier is open to racing age 15-18, but only racing ages 17-18 can qualify to race the Junior Track World Championships.
Prior to the Qualifying Race, USA Cycling will host a Technique Camp on June 14-15. The camp is free to all junior riders who pre-register for the Qualifying Races. In addition to Daggs, the camp coaching staff will include National Sprint coach Bill Huck (1989-90 World Champion), Olympic gold medalist and three-time World Champion Marty Nothstein, 2016 Olympic Team Member Matt Baranoski, and more coaches to be announced. The purpose of this camp is to provide world class professional instruction on technique and skills and lay the foundation for future junior track camps.
Athletes selected for the Junior Worlds team will participate in a Prep Camp in Rochester Hills, Mich., at the Bloomer Park International Velodrome. The track at the UCI World Cycling Centre is 200m as is the track at Bloomer Park. The camp will be an excellent opportunity to familiarize athletes with the more technical requirements of racing on a 200m track prior to traveling to Switzerland for the World Championships.
