Hammer silver closes Track World Cup

  
  


(Jan. 17, 2016) – Sarah Hammer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) closed out the UCI Track World Cup #3 with women’s omnium silver on Sunday in Hong Kong, leading Team USA to its best result of the three-day event.

Laura Trott (GBR) topped Hammer in the standings with 188 points to take the omnium win. Laurie Berthon (FRA) earned bronze with 166 points.
 
Hammer opened the day with a 36.495-second, ninth place finish in the 500m time trial, followed by a sixth-place, 14.351-second flying lap. She closed out competition with 170 points after picking up eight in the points race.
 
Hammer finished fourth in the final women’s World Cup omnium rankings despite only competing in two of the three World Cup events.
 
In the men’s omnium, Jake Duehring (Irvine, Calif./GS Ciao) finished 20th following Sunday’s 17th-place 1km time trial, an 18th-place flying lap and 21 points in the points race.
 
He finished 26th in the final men’s World Cup omnium rankings.
 
In sprint events, Dana Feiss (Telford, Pa./Chester County Cycling Foundation) took sixth in the women’s keirin first round, before taking fifth in the repechage round, while Matt Baranoski (Perkasie, Pa./Custom Velo) finished 36th in the men’s sprint qualifier.
