Hammer claims omnium bronze


(Nov. 1, 2015) – Sarah Hammer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) put the finishing touches on the women’s omnium bronze medal Sunday at the 2015-16 UCI Track World Cup #1 in Cali, Colombia, closing out competition with 31 points in the points race.

Hammer used the 31-point performance in the day’s final event to jump from fifth to third in the standings with 153 overall points highlighted by Saturday’s second-place individual pursuit and fifth-place scratch race finishes.
Laura Trott (GBR) and Laurie Berthon (FRA) took gold and silver, respectively.
Jacob Duehring (Irvine, Calif./GS Ciao) finished 20th in the men’s omnium after taking 18th and 19th in the time trial and flying lap, and finishing with 22 points in the points race.
Matt Baranoski (Perkasie, Pa./Custom Velo) competed in the men’s sprint, where he finished 38th in the qualifying round.

Team USA finished World Cup #1 with women’s team pursuit silver, Hammer’s omnium bronze and Jennifer Valente’s (San Diego, Calif./TWENTY16 p/b SHO-AIR) scratch race bronze. World Cup #2 will run Dec. 5-6 in Cambridge, New Zealand.
