(June 4, 2017) – After crashing in the opening round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup downhill back in April, defending World Cup Champion Aaron Gwin (Wildomar, Calif./YT) rebounded to reach the podium Sunday at the second stop in Fort William, Great Britain. Gwin finished third in the elite men’s downhill, 3.799 seconds behind winner Greg Minnaar (RSA). Jack Moir (AUS) took second place.

The fifth-fastest qualifier on Saturday, Gwin had a 4.5-second advantage after coming out of the woods, but saw it drop to 0.87 seconds at the finish as he took over the hot seat with four riders left to challenge the course. Only Minnaar and Moir would post quicker times to knock Gwin to third place.

Meanwhile, Neko Mulally (Pisgah Forest, N.C./YT) had his second straight seventh-place finish, crossing the line 5.755 seconds back of Minnaar to give the Americans two riders in the top 10.

Luca Shaw (Hendersonville, N.C./SRAM Troy Lee Designs) was 20th in 4:59.072, followed by Charlie Harrison (Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Intense Factory Racing) in 27th (5:00.457) and Shane Leslie (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Defiant Racing) in 45th (5:06.034) to round out the U.S. riders in the top 50.

The American squad got another top-10 finish in the junior men’s race as 18-year-old Nikolas Nestoroff (San Marcos, Calif.) finished in 10th position.
