​GOLDEN GIRLS: Team USA wins women's team pursuit world title


(March 4, 2016) – Team USA defeated Canada in the women's team pursuit final Friday at the 2016 UCI Track World Championships, taking home the country's first ever team event world championship.

Kelly Catlin (Arden Hills, Minn./NorthStar Development), Chloe Dygert (Brownsburg, Ind./TWENTY16 p/b SHO-AIR), Sarah Hammer (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Jennifer Valente (San Diego, Calif./TWENTY16 p/b SHO-AIR) put the finishing touches on the women's team pursuit gold medal run after taking down Canada with a 4:16.802 final run. Canada posted a 4:19.525.

This is the first wolrd championship gold medal for Team USA in a women's team event.

Earlier in the day, Team USA made history for the second straight day after posting a 4:14.806 run in the women's team pursuit First Round, breaking the U.S. national record of 4:16.180 set on Thursday.
The Americans topped the Australians by 3.753 seconds in the head-to-head competition to earn a matchup with Canada. The Canadians posted a 4:18.261 in their First Round matchup against New Zealand.

Jake Duehring (Irvine, Calif./GS Ciao) stands 19th in the men's omnium with eight points after three events. He finished 19th in the scratch race, followed by 20th-place finishes in the individual pursuit and elimination race.

Ian Holt (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Armed Forces Cycling Team) finished 11th in the men's points race with two points. Jonathan Dibben (GBR) took the win with 48 points, edging Andreas Graf (AUT), who also had 48 points, and Kenny de Ketele (BEL), who had 43 points.

Competition resumes on Saturday, where Duehring will finish the men's omnium, Hammer will challenge the women's omnium individual pursuit, scratch and elimination races and Kim Geist (Emmaus, Pa./Chester County Cycling Foundation-Team Alliance Environmental) looks to reach the women's points race podium for the second straight year. Visit Tissot Timing for live timing and schedules.
