Heusden-Zolder, Belgium (May 14, 2017) – Following up on his bronze-medal performance of a week ago in round two of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX/Monster Energy) reached the top step of the men’s podium Saturday during round three in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium.

Fields posted a time of 31.727 in the final to take the gold medal, edging out Dave van der Burg (NED) and Edzus Treimanis (LAT). The victory temporarily put Fields into the overall World Cup lead. Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz./Daylight Cycle Co) joined Fields in Saturday’s final but finished seventh in 33.770.

Felicia Stancil (Lake Villa, Ill./GT Bicycles) was the only American to reach Saturday’s women’s semi-final, but did not finish her heat. Mariana Pajon (COL) went on to win the gold ahead of Simone Christensen (DEN) and Stefany Hernandez (VEN). Brooke Crain (Visalia, Calif./Haro Bikes/Dan’s Comp), recovering from injuries suffered last weekend, did not compete in Belgium.

On Sunday, Sharrah was the only U.S. rider to reach the final. He had a perfect day in the elimination rounds, but a bad start in the final, coupled with getting tangled up in a wreck in turn two dashed any podium hopes for Sharrah as he finished eighth. Twan van Gendt (NED) took the win ahead of Sylvain Andre (FRA) and Romain Mahieu (FRA). Fields did not make it past the quarterfinal round on Sunday, dropping him to fourth in the World Cup rankings.

In Sunday’s women’s final, Laura Smulders (NED) claimed the victory over Christensen and Hermandez.
