Daniel McDonald Election Statement

Daniel McDonald
Mountain Bike Committee - Gravity Race Director

To all the members of USA Cycling,
I have accepted the nomination to “Gravity Race Director” and here are many reasons I am the best candidate:
  • Hold three Bachelor’s degrees (Psychology, Business Administration and Marketing)
  • I have been a member of USA Cycling as a Rider Racer of Gravity Events since 2001
  • I successfully ran two Gravity race series in NH 2001 - 2004
  • I created Team DROP (Developing Riders Operation Promotion) 12 riders under age 18 riders
  • Ran that team from 2003 through 2010 and many have gone on to great Pro careers
  •  I held the first off campus Gravity Summit in 2008 and then attended all the USA Cycling’s Gravity Summits all but one year 2011.
  • Incidentally in 2008 I acquired management of a multi-regional Gravity Race Series. Covering  5 states called the “Gravity East Series” ever since. We have successfully run, trademarked the series logo and name and successfully run that series to this day entering our 6th season.
  • Supported and/sponsored many teams and riders whose careers have taken off, with names like Neko Mulally, Jason Memmelaar, Logan Mulally, Gavin Vaughn, Willem Cooper just to name a few.
  • The riders have hailed the series as a great series to attend to prepare them for World Cup status. The series has become a very organized, professionally run series. With input from the riders and understanding their needs and desires in an effort to create the best events possible.
  • I have also been a USA Cycling Official since 2009, looking to continue in the development of the sport of gravity racing to the next level.
  •  I am also President of the USA Cycling Group “Gravity East Series”
  • I support the growth of the sport and have maintained great relationships with our partners, sponsors and venues.
  • Since NORBA has left the industry that has enabled me to improve my directing skills to bring the some of the best races and championship events the east have ever seen.
  • I have worked with my community, the Boy Scouts, and mentally and physically challenged riders to improve and teach them skills and other cycling options within the cycling community.
  • As a consultant with NH State Legislator and a member on the Parks and Recreation dept.I have helped to improve trails, lanes and infrastructure as well as assisting with the Green Trail initiative.
  • As a professional race director and race official I have enjoyed over the years a good working relationship with Kelli Lusk National Mountain Bike Director, Susie Diller, in Membership, Mark Gullickson, and Randy Inglis Northeast Regional Coordinator.
My goals for the years to come are to improve the sport, attendance and growth with the younger riders as well as the 50+ category and we believe currently the only grassroots series offering a 50+ category. I have a great understanding of the sport of cycling in general especially Gravity racing and those who love it and have the same of passion for the sport that I have.
For the 2012 race season we have created a partnership with Launch Bike Park for a multi-year permanent Dual course and series in addition to our downhill racing series.
As a former champion athlete I understand the needs of the athletes when attending a USA Cycling sanctioned events. I understand there is room for which I will work as a team member with USA Cycling to improve the industry.
I would appreciate your vote. Your vote will allow me to represent this area of racing and cycling in general for me is a vote for representation in general.  And I will be a great addition to the Mountain Bike Committee.
