Curtis Tolson Election Statement

Curtis Tolson
Coach - Track Sport Committee

Dear USA Cycling membership,

Thank you for nominating me for the track committee position.  I am highly motivated to help USA Cycling make important decisions regarding track cycling. I enter this election with a real sense of urgency to help reinvigorate track cycling in the Unites States.

Here are some of the qualifications that I have:

1. Racing - I have been racing on the track for 33 years during which time I have collected 38 masters national track championships & 3 national records. I have raced on the vast majority of velodromes in the US as well as some international velodromes. During this time I have faced numerous rule changes  & inconsistent interpretations regarding equipment & other general track racing rules. I hope to give input to help the average rider navigate this with some clarity. I am at the races many times through the season.  Riders, officials & velodrome staff can access me very easily.

2. Coaching -  I have coached riders from learning how physically ride a bicycle to the pro tour professional level.  I hope to help develop a USA Cycling plan to drive new riders to intro track programs & increase participation.  I believe that riders who learn the technical/tactical aspects of racing on the track are among the most technically/tactically proficient riders in the world. I believe that all riders can benefit from riding the track.

3. Team Management - I founded and manage one the most recognized elite amateur cycling teams in the US. I have developed maintained sponsorship relationships both within the cycling industry as well as nationally recognized brands outside of cycling. I am hoping to help develop the NTC series & others as well as give input regarding scheduling of races. This year the Jr National track championships were 1 week before Jr national road championship & elite track is 1 week before Masters track at opposite ends of the country.  I know several riders that had to pick 1 or the other.  I hope to help minimize scheduling conflict like these in the future.

4. Indiana Kentucky Cycling Association Board of Directors - As VP of our  local association, I am in constant contact with membership at the grass roots level.  If elected I will be available to the entire membership to discuss track cycling issues & relay them to USA cycling.

As a 51 year old life-long cyclist I am ready to give something back to the sport that I love. I hope you will vote for me.

Sincerely,
Curtis Tolson
