Collegiate Committee Seeks Nominations for Appointed Position

After the governance revisions USA Cycling underwent in 2011, the USA Cycling Collegiate Sport Committee’s structure expanded to include one appointed position, selected by the six other members of the committee. This structure allows the committee to represent a stakeholder group not currently represented. If you have suggestions for the committee as to what type of group should be represented by this individual, and/or would like to nominate yourself or someone else for this position, please send an email to collegiaterules@usacycling.org.  Nominations and suggestions must be received by the end of the day on Monday, October 8th, 2012.

To get an idea of what perspectives are already represented on the committee, we’ve outlined the current structure:
  • Eligible male athlete (must have finished in top 50% of collegiate national championship omnium in past two years): This position brings the perspective of a top-level male student athlete to the committee. Currently filled by Blake Anton of Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo
  • Eligible female athlete (must have finished in top 50% of collegiate national championship omnium in past two years): This position brings the perspective of a top-level female student athlete to the committee. Currently filled by Irene Hurst of Tulane University
  • Commissaire (International or National Commissaire): This position brings an experienced race official to the committee. Currently filled by Bill Wykoff, road National Commissaire and former NWCCC Director
  • Club president: This position represents both club programs and team leaders as a whole. Currently filled by Sophy Lee of Harvard University
  • Varsity team director: This position represents the perspective of varsity programs and their coaches, schools, and riders. Currently filled by Dean Peterson of Marian University
  • At Large (elected): This position is elected by the collegiate membership as a whole to bring any voice currently missing from the committee’s other positions. Currently filled by Mark Abramson, former ECCC director

If you have any questions about this opportunity or the structure of the collegiate committee, contact Jeffrey Hansen, USA Cycling Collegiate and High School Program Manager.
