Chloe Dygert punches ticket to Worlds with Pan Am Gold
Posting a time of 26:20.3 over the 20 kilometers, the 20-year-old Dygert claimed not only the gold medal (in both the elite and U23 ranks) but also a time trial start spot at the UCI Road World Championships later this year. Fellow American, Wiles, clocked in at 26:59.9 for the silver medal giving Team USA the top two spots on the podium.
Finishing 1:31.1 off the fast pace set by Dygert, Marlies Mejias Garcia (CUB) rounded out the elite women’s top three with the bronze medal.
In the men’s 30-kilometer time test, Team USA’s Ian Garrison collected the silver medal when he posted 38:34.7, a time which was 41.7 seconds off the winning time of 37:53.0 set by Jose Alexis Rodriguez Villalobos (CRC).
Team USA will be back in action when the elite women’s road race takes center stage on Sunday. Dygert and Wiles will be joined by Skylar Schneider (West Allis, Wis./ISCorp Powered By Progress Software), Samantha Schneider (West Allis, Wis./ISCorp Powered By Progress Software), Alison Tetrick (Petaluma, Calif./Cylance Pro Cycling), and Leah Thomas (Boulder Creek, Calif./Sho-Air TWENTY20).
