Carl Wilkins Election Statement
Carl Wilkins
Track Committee - Commissaire
I am a candidate for the USA Cycling - Board of Trustee for the Track (velodrome) committee.
Here is a little about myself which I feel qualifies me to represent you and the sport of bicycle racing.
My Name is Carl Wilkins. I was born, raised and live in Southeastern Wisconsin (Kenosha). I am still single, but some say that I have been married to bicycling for over 45 years and I have been known to show up anywhere to tour, race or officiate a bicycling event. I love to travel and have been to over 75 countries around the world thanks to bicycling touring, racing and officiating. I am a former Wisconsin state employee working at a state institution for the developmentally disabled and was also a primary care giver for over 13 years. I am retired, but I still operate a bicycle racing promoting business called Wisconsin Bicycle Racing. My racing age is almost 59 and I have been riding, touring and racing since 1968 but at this time because of a neck injury, I am unable to get back on my bike until cross season.
I had been a licensed official in many organizations such as Norba, USPRO, USCF, ABLA, USAC, and ABR… Currently, I concentrate in USAC and ABR events on the road, track, cyclocross, and a little mountain biking. I still officiate at over 75 events per year, but in the past I had officiated at over 100 events per year for over 20 years. I am also a National Commisaire and the only reason I am not an International Commisaire is because of the age discrimination that exist within USAC and the UCI. I have worked at more than 50 Nationals Championships on the road, and track in all of the possible positions available from Judge, Starter, Race Secretary, to Chief Referee. I still officiate at the Kenosha, Chicago and Northbrook Velodromes (track) since I began officiating in the mid to late 1970’s. I had also officiated for over 15 years (every Friday) at the Major Taylor Velodrome in Indianapolis, IN.
I am also a bicycle racing promoter of several time trials, criteriums, and a Masters track racing series on Wednesday nights at the Kenosha “Washington Bowl “Velodrome. I had also promoted / hosted USAC National Track Championships and national selection events over the years.
The trustees represent its members, licensees and competitors in road, cross, mountain and track racing and I would appreciate your support to represent you on the track committee.
Here is my e-mail and phone number. Carl Wilkins, cewbike@tds.net, 262.654.6773 I am also on facebook at Carl Wilkins.
