Boston, Mass. – Mayor Menino’s Boston Bikes today announced an all-star cast of top cycling stars, set to descend on Boston for the Fifth Annual TD Bank Mayor’s Cup on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013. At stake are top honors in the final leg of USA Cycling’s National Criterium Calendar (NCC), plus a $30,000 prize purse split equally between the men and women.

“The TD Bank Mayor’s Cup is a powerful symbol of how far Boston has come in its mission to be recognized as a world-class bicycling city,” Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino said. “It’s great to have so many pro cyclists committed to competing here, especially with many elite riders having ties to Boston and New England.”

The race is part of the two-day Boston Cycling Celebration, which also includes category 2/3, masters and women’s 3/4 criterium races on Saturday and the Hub on Wheels citywide ride on Sunday.

The TD Bank Mayor’s Cup is excited to have many of the top criterium racers in the country at this year’s race, including the 2012 defending champions in both men’s categories. Hilton Clark (UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling), who ranks first in the 2013 NCC standings, will be the one to look for in this year’s pro men’s field. Clark’s teammate Luke Keough is back to defend his 2012 Mayor’s cup win. Keough currently ranks third in the NCC standings and is a Cape Cod native.

Ted King (Cannondale Pro Cycling Team) is among the big name riders slated to compete. A native New Englander, King now competed primarily in Europe on the major league-level World tour circuit, including as a participant in this year's Tour de France.

“I’m thrilled to race in the TD Bank Mayor’s Cup again,” said King. “To return to the area I grew up in and race one of the biggest criteriums in America is huge. Winning in Boston would really cap off the year on a high note.”

Local racing celebrity Adam Myerson will be returning this year. Myerson's full squad from Team SmartStop-Mountain Khakis will be looking to derail the UnitedHealthcare team in their quest for victory.

In the women’s field, Erica Allar (CARE4CYCLING p/b Solomon Corp.) will be back to defend her 2012 TD Bank Mayor’s Cup win. Allar ranks first in the NCC series and will have to fend off long-time criterium racing star Laura Van Gilder (Mellow Mushroom Racing) who is also returning for another year. Van Gilder is currently second in the NCC standings.

Robin Farina (NOW and Novartis for MS) will be on the start line of this year’s race. The 2011 national road racing champion is a great sprinter and will be back to mix things up in the ladies field.

Amber Pierce (Team Pasta Zara) will be adding some international flare to the race. Pierce, a California native, now lives in Austria and spends her time on the grueling European racing circuit. She will be ready to challenge many U.S. criterium racers.

“We are proud to sponsor the TD Bank Mayor’s Cup, a world-class pro cycling event in the heart of Boston,” said Mark Crandall, Regional President for TD Bank. “The weekend promises to be filled with fun, family-oriented activities, where families can enjoy the thrill of biking through Boston and live entertainment while experiencing the TD Bank brand.”
