Beech Mountain Resort Inc. and USA Cycling will partner for the second consecutive year to host USA Cycling’s Mountain Bike Gravity National Championships July 19-22. In addition to the mountain bike competition, Beech Mountain Resort will offer scenic lift rides, along with food and beverages during the four days of the competition.

Last year more than 2,500 people attended, and resort personnel are excited about this year’s event. “The success of this event is imperative to the progression of cycling in the High Country,” said Beech Mountain Resort Marketing Director Talia Freeman. “It is our goal to provide a family-oriented and spectator-friendly event.”

Competitors from across the nation will be in Beech Mountain for the championships. They will compete in two disciplines, dual slalom and downhill. Categories of competition include amateur and junior to professional. In addition to the competitions, spectators can enjoy food and beverages, a kid’s village, and an expo area highlighting many of the nation's top outdoor and cycling products.

Along with the dual slalom event on Saturday, July 21, the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce will host the second annual Brews and Views Festival. Tickets can be purchased in advance online for $20. Over 40 different brews will be available to be enjoyed along with the live entertainment.

Beech Mountain Resort, Inc. was the first resort in the Southeast to host USA Cycling's Mountain Bike Gravity National Championships. The success of the 2011 event spurred an interest in the cycling community, prompting resort management to further the progression of a lift-accessible mountain bike park. This summer, the resort plans to continue the expansion of a unique trail system, with a strong focus on beginner terrain.
