Indianapolis, Ind. (Aug. 4, 2013) -- Sunday was the last chance for riders to nab that elusive Stars-and-Stripes jersey or for champions to pad their already impressive medal totals at the 2013 USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships at the Major Taylor Velodrome in Indianapolis.

Curtis Tolson (Louisville, Ky.) continued to dominate every event he entered, winning the 45+ team pursuit with partners Dean Peterson (Indianapolis, Ind.), David Brinton (Hollywood, Calif.) and Chris Carlson (Plano, Texas)., and the 45+ Madison with Carlson. Tolson won five Stars-and-Stripes jerseys at this week's national championships, making a grand total of 38 for his career.

Nearly as dominant was the Boulder Orthopedics squad, which won the best all-around team on Sunday. Their national championships were topped off with a second place in the men’s 55+ team pursuit. Two of their members also won gold in the men’s 35+ team pursuit, teaming up with Stages Cycling’s Ben Sharp (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Patrick Warner (Boulder, Colo.).

Sharp and Warner also had an eventful nationals, with Warner winning the men’s 40-44 points race and Sharp taking second in the men’s 40-44 scratch race. The two also won Sunday’s crash-filled men’s 35+ Madison race. Sharp said the first crash changed the dynamic of the race.

“From that point on, you had three fewer teams,” Sharp said. “With only seven teams, the track seems a lot bigger. There are fewer wheels to ride behind.”

After a season of hard training, this national championships couldn’t have gotten any better, Sharp said.

“If you would have told us a week ago this is how things would turn out, we wouldn’t have believed you,” Sharp said. “We’re ecstatic.”

Cheryl Fuller-Muller (Cumming, Ga.) also seemed ecstatic, standing on the top step of the women’s 35+ team sprint podium with Shannon Moak (Katy, Texas). The two ladies worked like an exceedingly fast and well-oiled machine, besting the second-place finishers by nearly three seconds. Fuller-Muller won the best all-around women’s rider 35-39 the night before, reaching the podium in each of her races.

The George Garner team -- Jeff Whiteman (Chicago, Ill.), Jason Garner (Glenville, Ill.) and Robert Higgins (Chicago, Ill.) -- won the men’s 35+ team sprint, but was slightly slower than the Drop Dead Sprints team of Jonathan Chambers (Hellertown, Pa.), Quinn Hatfield (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Michael Dancel (Colorado Springs, Colo.). However that team was disqualified for a missed exchange on the second lap.
