2012 U.S. Paralympic Cycling Team Nominated
Today, U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, announced athlete nominations for the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Cycling Team that will compete in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, August 29-September 9. The team roster is subject to approval by the U.S. Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee.
Today’s nominated athletes include seven women and six men representing 11 sport classes. There are seven U.S. Paralympians on the roster and four current world champions. This will be the sixth Paralympic Games for Allison Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and the third for Muffy Davis (Salt Lake City, Utah). Three U.S. military veterans have been named to the team including Steve Peace, Navy; Oz Sanchez, Marine Corps; and Jen Schuble, Army.
The team was selected based on results from the time trial held yesterday at the U.S. Paralympic Road Cycling National Championships in Augusta, Ga., as well as the 2012 Para-Cycling Track World Championships held in Los Angeles in February and the 2011 Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark last September.
At the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, the U.S. won 14 medals in cycling; five gold, five silver and four bronze.
