2012 Junior Race Series calendars announced

Colorado Springs, Colo. (January 27, 2012) — The Lance Armstrong Junior Race Series (LAJRS) and the Alison Dunlap Junior Race Series (ADJRS) begin their 2012 calendars this weekend.

Designed to promote racing opportunities for junior cyclists, the LAJRS and ADJRS strive to develop long-term partnerships with race organizers who will create safe and fun racing opportunities for boys and girls and young men and women.

The Lance Armstrong Junior Race Series begins Saturday, January 28, at the 5th Annual Spring Fling of Cycling in Deland, Fla. Racing continues through June with events in Arizona, Florida, California and Illinois. For an up-to-date calendar, visit www.usacycling.org/lajrs.

Sunday, February 5, marks the start of the Alison Dunlap Junior Race Series. The first of three events in the Winter MTB XC Series, held in Fairfield, Ohio, kicks off the ADJRS, which stretches into July and also includes racing in Maryland and Tennessee. The current calendar can be found at www.usacycling.org/adjrs.

The Lance Armstrong Junior Race Series is marking its 20th year of providing racing opportunities for junior and espoir-aged young men and women. With the aim of increasing the quantity and quality of road racing opportunities for young, USA Cycling-licensed riders in the United States, LAJRS also aims to identify and recognize potential world-class cycling talent at the junior level.

Entering its 13th year, the Alison Dunlap Junior Race Series was created by USA Cycling to provide racing opportunities for aspiring junior mountain bike athletes across the country. In addition to the opportunity to earn invitations to development camps, the top 10 finishers in both genders and all categories and age groups in the ADJRS will be qualified to compete at their respective 2012 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships (cross-country or gravity).

Both programs also act as a possible entry point to USA Cycling's Athlete Development Pathway. This pathway provides riders with a road map to follow from beginning racing experiences through training camps to international competition. Top finishers at races in both series will have the opportunity to qualify for one of USA Cycling’s Regional Development Camps.
